Experience

i am a cell biologist with experience in the development of novel models of human cancer.

I have been awarded £1.3 million in research funding.

I am the Principal Investigator on projects funded by Prostate Cancer UK, Breast Cancer Now, Worldwide Cancer Research & The Rosetrees Trust.

I am Co-Investigator on several other grants, including a project funded by The Wellbeing of Women.

I have published articles in a wide range of international journals including:

Nature Reviews in Clinical Oncology, The Journal of Pathology, The Journal of Cell Science, The Journal of Cell Biology, EMBO Reports, Cancer Research, Molecular Cancer Research, Oncogene, The British Journal of Cancer, The British Journal of Haematology, Breast Cancer Research & Treatment, Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis & Vascular Biology and The Journal of Vascular Surgery.

I have peer reviewed for multiple journal titles and research funding bodies, including Cancer Research UK.

I have supervised six Ph.D. students, over thirty Masters students and B.Sc. student research projects.

Skills

Advanced cell biology, including live cell imaging and the development of 3D human models of cancer.

I teach a wide range of cancer-related subjects, at both Masters and Undergraduate level.

Qualifications

Awarded an Upper Second Class B.Sc. Honours in Pharmacology from the University of Portsmouth in 1992.

Winner of the Brian Toulman Prize, Wellcome Trust Prize for Pharmacology and a Wellcome Trust Summer Studentship at the University of Portsmouth (1991/92).

Awarded a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Imperial College London in 1998.

Awarded Certificate for Advanced Study in Learning and Teaching (CASLAT) from Imperial College London in 2008, and became a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy.
